Good afternoon evil-doers! The Meista here today with another kick-ass pairing for ya! I'm pairing Exhumed's wonderful 2019 album, "Horror" with a bold and tasty Ghosts Of Sego Barrel-Aged Maibock from Uinta Brewing Company!
Album Info:
- Artist: Exhumed
- Title: "Horror"
- Recorded: 2019
Release date: October 4th, 2019 (8th studio album by Exhumed) - Record company: Relapse Records
- Production: Alejandro Corredor
- Album cover art:
- Personnel: Mike Hamilton (drums), Matt Harvey (guitars and vocals), Sebastian Phillips (guitars), and Ross Sewage (bass and vocals)
- Musical style: Death metal, thrash metal, gorecore
- Sound: "Horror" is Exhumed version of a mid-80s thrash album. It still has their brutal signature death metal/grind vibe, but it definitely has that fast-paced, guitar-driven, machine gun attack metal feel of the early thrash metal scene. The songs are fast and tight and a sheer joy to experience! Killer stuff!
- Major themes: With lyrics steeped in classic monster movies and 1980s horror films, themes on the album include murder, death, the undead, insanity, blood, gore, monsters, evil, pathology, etc.
- Tracks:
- "Unsound"
- "Ravenous Cadavers"
- "Scream Out In Fright"
- "The Red Death"
- "Utter Mutilation Of Your Corpse"
- "Slaughter Maniac"
- "Ripping Death"
- "Clawing"
- "Naked, Screaming, And Covered In Blood"
- "Playing With Fear"
- "Dead Meat"
- "Rabid"
- "In The Mouth Of Hell"
- "Shattered Sanity"
- "Re-Animated"

- Brew: Ghosts of Sego Barrel-Aged Maibock
- Style: Maibock
- Serving: 12 ounce bottle
- ABV: 8.2%
- IBUs: 24
- SRM: 5.0
- Ingredients: 2-Row and Munich malts with Hallertau hops
- Pour: The Ghosts of Sego pours a slightly cloudy, dark bronze-amber color with a thin, but firm eggshell white head with good retention and light lacing.
- Nose: The nose is fruity, malty, and earthy. There are aromas of sweet apple, light pear, graham cracker, rich coffee, vanilla, oak, and light bourbon.
- Taste: The taste follows the nose with lots of earthy, fruity, and malty flavors. There are notes of graham cracker, sweet biscuit, crisp apple, earthy coffee, and a hint of woody bourbon.
- Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel of the Ghosts of Sego is crisp, yet smooth and creamy with a dry, slightly boozy finish.
Overall pairing: The Uinta Ghosts of Sego Barrel-Aged Maibock is an interesting take on the traditional German Maibock. It has that smooth drinkability of a traditional Maibock, but the coffee and bourbon flavors give it an extra kick... great for the aggressive metal attack and horror imagery of Exhumed's latest! I also love the imagery of the wonderfully freaky "Horror" album cover juxtaposed against the very cool Ghosts of Sego label!
Hails!!
