Hey there evil-doers, headbangers, and craft brew freaks! Happy Friday! Your drinkin' buddy the Meista here today getting the weekend off the right way with another great pairing for ya... Perdition Temple's relentless "Merciless Upheaval" and a hoppy, spicy, and flavorful The Devil's Hops Belgian Pale Ale from my friends and family at Fisher Brewing Company! Hell yeah!
- Artist: Perdition Temple
- Title: "Merciless Upheaval"
- Recorded: 2021
- Release date: June 24th, 2022 (4th full-length studio album by Perdition Temple)
- Record company: Hells Headbangers Records
- Production: Jarrett Pritchard and Perdition Temple
- Album cover art: Jenglot Hitam
- Personnel: Alex Blume (bass), Gene Palubicki (guitars and vocals), and Ronnie Parmer (drums)
- Musical style: Death metal with elements of black metal and thrash metal
- Sound: Heavy and aggressive as hell, with their 4th album, Perdition Temple lays down some of their best tracks to date! As with anything Palubicki, Blume, and Parmer produce, it hits and it hits fucking hard! The album's tracks are filled with killer riffs, powerfully driving rhythms, and infernal growls and thought-provoking lyrics! Absolutely stellar!
- Major themes: Death, violence, the occult, evil, darkness, horror, anti-religion, etc.
- Note: The first half of the album consists of original material. The second half consists of covers done amazingly well!
- Tracks:
- "Merciless Upheaval"
- "Execution Swarm"
- "Redemption Abattoir"
- "In Thrall Of Malevolence"
- "Skeletons In the Closet" (Infernäl Mäjesty cover)
- "From the Stars, Nyarlathotep" (Shub Niggurath cover)
- "Blood On My Hands" (Morbid Angel cover)
- "Parricide" (Pestilence cover)
- Brewery: Fisher Brewing Company (Salt Lake City, Utah)
- Website: http://www.fisherbeer.com/
- Brew: The Devils Hops
- Style: Belgian Pale Ale
- Serving: 32 ounce crowler can
- ABV: 5.0%
- Ingredients: Belgian Ale with Mosaic and Citra hops. "Yeast was harvested from the Beast of Zion, this beer's older brother."
- Pour: The Devil's Hops pours a clear, golden-yellow hue with a frothy, bright white, half-finger head that dissipates slowly to a thin ring with light, sudsy lacing.
- Nose: The nose is bready, spicy, hoppy, and fruity. There are aromas of robust spices (cardamom, nutmeg, and cloves), bold and bitter hops, grapefruit rind, pine resin, subtle fruit esters (banana, pear, green grapes, and apple), and soft caramel/toffee.
- Taste: The taste is like the nose: hoppy, spicy, slightly fruity, and malty. There are notes of grapefruit juice, bitter herbs, pear juice, white grape juice, grape seed, ripe banana, cloves, light apple, and hints of caramel. It "acts like the Belgian devils you know well, but with way less alcohol" and lot more hops!
- Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with good carbonation, the mouthfeel of the Devil's Hops is crisp, hoppy, and spicy, yet very smooth, with a dry, slightly spicy, slightly bitter finish.
Overall pairing: The Devil's Hops from the fine folks at Fisher Brewing is a very crushable and good offering of the style... great to pair with the intensity and heavy metal punch that is the infernal and brutally magical "Merciless Upheaval"! Those spicier and hoppier notes go great with the darker lyrics and overall aggressive death metal attack, while the crushable maltiness is great for the overall metal attack!! 'Nuff said!
