Hello and happy Friday headbangers and artisan brew fans!  The Meista here today pairing Black Sabbath's first live album, the double-album "Live Evil" and a very delicious, award-winning Vanilla Bean Mexican Chocolate Stout from Copper Kettle  Brewing Company!  (HEAVEN AND) HELL YES!!

  • Sound: One of my all-time favorite live albums, the sound on "Live Evil" is wonderfully rich, powerful, and full of electrifying energy!  The set list is fantastic... a perfect mix of Ozzy-era and Dio-era Sabbath.  And the band is tight, aggressive, and on the top of their game!  Of the sound and tour, Dio once stated, ""It was an excellent tour. I think we were probably riding quite high on the Heaven and Hell success, and so we ended up playing really, really well. Even towards the end the shows were still great."
  • Major themes: Power and might, good vs. evil, darkness, the occult, death, war, revenge, , etc.
  • Interesting side note: In his autobiography, Tony Iommi tells of band's live shows during this period.  They used "lots of pyro with fire and bombs" and while playing at the Hammersmith Odeon in England, the bombs were being tested and "blew a two-foot-wide hole in the floor on my side. If I'd been there, I would have been blown up. Christ, it was dangerous." He also admits that the band had to cancel a show at Madison Square Garden when the bombs blew out the tubes in all the amps during the first note of the first song "War Pigs"!
