October 31st, 2019 - Trick Or Treat! I've Got Some Chocolate And Cheese For Your Wet Dreams

And now for something completely different!  When I was trying to figure out a pairing for this beer, my wife suggested using one of her albums, specifically for the cover art tying in with name of the brew. :)  So I give you today's pairing: Ween's "Chocolate And Cheese" and a Wet Dream from Evil Twin Brewing!  This pairing goes out to my lovely wife... cheers baby... and to my friends Jason and Sonia... thanks for the beer homies!!

Album Info:
  • Artist: Ween
  • Title: "Chocolate And Cheese"
  • Recorded: 1994
Release date: September 27th, 1994 (4th studio album by Ween)
  • Record company: Elektra Records
  • Production: Andrew Weiss
  • Album cover art: John Kuczala (photography) and Reiner Design Consultants (design)
  • Personnel: Claude Coleman Jr. (drums), Dean Ween (guitar, vocals, and drums), and Gene Ween (vocals)
  • Additional musicians: Patricia Frey (drums), Stephan Said (Spanish guitar), and Mean Ween (bass)
  • Musical style: Alternative rock, art rock, experimental rock
  • Sound: Combining multiple styles of music including pop, rock, funk, country, blues, folk, and art rock along with witty and sometimes silly humor, the sound on "Chocolate And Cheese" is unique, artistic, and very entertaining.  At a time when "alternative rock" was the new buzz word and every band on the radio was being referred to as such, Ween provided a true alternative to the run-of-the-mill, cookie cutter, corporate bullshit being spoon fed to us.
  • Major themes: Life, love, loss, sex, desire, sickness, honesty, etc.
  • Notes: The album is dedicated to late comedian John Candy.
  • Tracks:
  1. "Take Me Away"
  2. "Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down)"
  3. "Freedom Of '76"
  4. "I Can't Put My Finger On It"

  • Pour: The Wet Dream pours a dark mahogany with a frothy khaki head with good retention and lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is characterized by unique and rich notes of coffee, spice, citrus, and dark malts. There are aromas of dark roasted coffee, hazelnut, walnut, citrus rind, biscuit, black pepper, light caramel, and light anise.
  • Taste: Like the nose, the flavor is very rich, nutty, malty, citrusy, and spicy.  There are notes of dark roasted coffee, orange peel, allspice, Chinese pepper, a hint of anise, and soft caramel.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel of the Wet Dream is with a dry, slightly bitter finish.

Overall pairing: With its unique complexity, yet smooth drinkability, Evil Twin's Wet Dream is great for the wit, whimsy, and artistic integrity of Ween's "Chocolate And Cheese"!  'Nuf said!!

Cheers!  Happy Hallo... Ween!
